Completed Projects

Family: Maria, Manuel and Qixia

Area: Tiribi

The Story: Single Mother with two children, living in extreme conditions. The home was very small and in disrepair. This family was sleeping on a mound of trash, with dirt floors, and only a few feet away from the Tiribi River. Their home flooded every time it rained (which is A LOT in rainy season) from the street and through their leaking roof. All three of the family members slept on one small bed.

The Need: To tear down the old home, and build her a slightly larger new home, complete with access to her Mother's home next door, where all the cooking, laundry, etc. is done. The new home was to include concrete floors, electricity, a solid roof, and new furnishings.

Sponsorship Cost: Approximately $3,000

The Time: 4-5 Days

Family: Alex and Rebecca + 4

Area: New Millenium

The Story: On January 4th a team of staff members went on what we call a discovery team. We went to a certain area and met a family of six living in a two room home. Their home was in really bad shape. We talked with them about their home and prayed for them. We learned that they own the home and that they have extra room /property to build on.
Alex (the father) scraps metal and sells produce to make money. Alex and Rebecca actually came looking for us about a month prior to us finding them. A friend told them about us (a lady by the name of Ana?). Alex has a car, but several unpaid tickets, so he doesn’t drive it without worry.
There are wide open holes in their home where windows would usually be and they have no way to protect them selves from insects and other intruders. Their 2 year old little girl has bites all over her arms and legs. They have a toilet sitting in the room that all 4 of their children sleep in. They share 1 bed. While the toilet is decorated nicely, it doesn’t allow for much privacy. There is a mud pit on the side of their home where the water runs off of the roof that is a breeding pit for mosquitos. The house is on a steep slope and the floor inside follows the slope, they just poured a thin layer of concrete over the dirt for a floor. The rest of the floor is old laminate wood flooring planks that are holding moisture and delaminated.
They have power and water. They have a refrigerator and a way to cook. The parents sleep on a twin bed in a tiny room. The mattresses are worn out foam and filthy. The bed linens are filthy. They have a small T.V.

The Need: This is a great need! This family is living in very poor housing. No shower. They are a very sweet family. This will be a tough and challenging project for whoever sponsors it. This would need to be a team of physically able people with at least a couple people skilled in various aspects of construction. We will have to tear the current structure down and completely rebuild the home. In the process we will give them a slightly larger home as they have a little extra property to build on. They could use some new mattresses for both beds in the home. They could also use a shower. There are two possible ways to accomplish this build: 1.) Level the lot by hand 2.) Build the foundation on stilts. It will be tough either way. Is your team up for the challenge? If so, contact us and begin praying about funds and the impact this will have on this family for the name of Jesus.

Sponsorship Cost: At this time, this project is very roughly estimated around $5000 - $6000.

The Time: Approximately 7 full days of construction.

Family: Eduardo, Carmine, Carolyn, Allison & Henry

Area: Juan Pablo

The Story: Victor, a 6:8 Staff Member, heard of the family's need via a mutual friend. He went to see the house and meet the family. He knew immediately that we needed to build this family a new home. They were living in a shack with some wood planks laid on top of mud for a floor. The home had holes all throughout the walls and roof, and looked as if it might fall down at any moment. Eduardo (the husband) had recently been involved in a home Bible study in their community, and we saw this as a great opportunity to confirm the truth of God's love that he had been learning about.

The Need: Tear down the old home, pour concrete slab, complete with plumbing and build a new, larger home for the family.

Sponsorship Cost: Approximately $4,000 - 5,000

Family:  Rosevelle and her three daughters

Area: Llano

The Story: Rosevelle is a widow who is raising three daughters. Their home was perched high up on the mountain overlooking Alajuelita central. The home was on a very steep incline, and during rainy season was in a dangerous location, due to mudslides and flooding. Their home was in a very difficult location to access. Originally Casey Wagner's team was scheduled to build her home a year prior to the time it was actually built, but due to difficulty with her deceased husband's family, Casey's team was unable to build her home. A year later his team came back and was able to finally give her family a new, safer home.

The Need: To find a piece of property for Rosevelle's home to be built on. To build her a brand new home.

Sponsorship Cost: $4,000 - $5,000

The Time: 5-6 Days (Home was completed in only 4 days!!)
